AutoX: Oskaloosa, IA Iowa Region SCCA 2014-6-22

As many of you know, T3hClap.com has moved from the sunny beaches and tourist traps of Florida to the wonderful corn and soybeans of Iowa!!

Once we moved in and got situated. The first thing on the agenda was to find an AutoX, lucky for me we moved in to the intersection of three great SCCA autox regions. Iowa Region, Des Moines Valley Region and Great River Region. With the right planning it’s possible to do multiple events a month between each region (well, between March and Sept).

Oskaloosa hosted my first Iowa Autox. It is a small town that isn’t exactly easy to get to, when you take the long way. The AutoX is held at a small airports east of town. I plugged the airport into the Waze app and headed towards the event. As many iPhone users know, your phone will die and it’ll die when you’re 10 minutes from where you need to go in the middle of nowhere Iowa. Luckily, there was a Focus ST scooting a long that looked determined to go racing, so I followed him in the rest of the way. (Thanks Nate)

Japanese Wheel Wednesday: GramLight 57C6

Say hello to the GramLight 57C6. It’s a classically designed 6 spoke wheel. GramLight chose to go extreme with the faces for the 57C6. Going wider on the 57C6 to get extremely concave, so much so it causes some caliper clearance issues. Luckily with the help of a consulting client and our friends at Penguin Garage we were able to get some test fitting. Below you’ll find the breakdown of the available sizes and the known issues. Plus a few pictures!

Product Review: Killer B Motorsport Oil Pan, Pickup, and Baffle 2005 STi

Owning a 2005+ Subaru Impreza WRX STi isn’t all smiles and boost. There are a few things that are prone to failure, luckily all of them are well known.

1.) Inner CV Boot on passenger side likes to die at 55k miles

2.) Stock Pistons aren’t bulletproof and can have failure under poor tuning conditions

3.) Oil Pickup failure

#1 There isn’t much you can do except enjoy the car and fix it when it finally decides to tear

#2 Get a good tune as soon as possible, don’t risk a poor tune even for a few highway pulls, get a pro tune and enjoy the car.

#3 Oil pickup failure isn’t something to be taken lightly, unfortunately if and when this failure happens the engine is toast. The Oil Pickup will crack, and it will no longer do its job. The crack will starve the engine of oil and you will cause catastrophic damage. Luckily, there is a solution. Killer B Motorsport developed a more robust Oil Pickup that wont crack!

Enkei GTC01RR | Japan Wheel Wednesday

It’s Wednesday in Japan, so why not show off a new wheel from Enkei Japan. There has been some chatter about the RS05RR lately since it’s due to finally hit American shores in a few months, time to stir up some interest in the brand new Enkei GTC01RR!! Classic split six spoke design with multiple faces available, and some really nice proposed sizes. Enough talk, take a look at the photos, tell me what you think. Will these be your next set of wheels? Buy Karlton Flares to allow you to run the Rear face on all 4 corners? It’s tempting.

One Step Further Take Two. SSR Type-F

A short little “where are they now” feature. Feb 2009 I did an article on a simple yet awesome White GR STi, it turned out to be one of the most popular articles. It all started in the mind of a crazy guy from California who wanted to build a “family car”. Many should remember his first feature, if you don’t be sure to check it out (CLICK HERE).

New 57Ultimate from gram Lights

The guys at Rays Engineering and gram Lights have released a new wheel. This wheel looks awesome, especially in the blue.

Gram Light 57 Ultimate and 57 Ultimate SC come in a lot of sizes. Not too many Subaru friendly wide ones but there are plenty to satisfy the guys wanting a lower offset.
