Product Review: Killer B Motorsport Oil Pan, Pickup, and Baffle 2005 STi

Owning a 2005+ Subaru Impreza WRX STi isn’t all smiles and boost. There are a few things that are prone to failure, luckily all of them are well known.

1.) Inner CV Boot on passenger side likes to die at 55k miles

2.) Stock Pistons aren’t bulletproof and can have failure under poor tuning conditions

3.) Oil Pickup failure

#1 There isn’t much you can do except enjoy the car and fix it when it finally decides to tear

#2 Get a good tune as soon as possible, don’t risk a poor tune even for a few highway pulls, get a pro tune and enjoy the car.

#3 Oil pickup failure isn’t something to be taken lightly, unfortunately if and when this failure happens the engine is toast. The Oil Pickup will crack, and it will no longer do its job. The crack will starve the engine of oil and you will cause catastrophic damage. Luckily, there is a solution. Killer B Motorsport developed a more robust Oil Pickup that wont crack!

Brembo Clearance: Enkei RPF1 18×10 +38mm

Enkei RPF1 is probably the best wheel in the world. LOL, kidding, but kinda serious. It’s one of those wheels that has stuck around for ages and every year we figure a new car they work on. Hell Enkei still comes out with new sizes or bolt patterns. Ranging from a 14×7 to an 18×10.5 they’ve got nearly everyone covered. Alright enough about Enkei and lets focus on the specific size on hand. The 18×10 +38mm is normally 5×114.3 but there have been a few special order runs in 5×100 not many though.

The 18×10 +38mm requires a 5mm spacer to clear the STI Brembos. Some people have gotten away with a 3mm spacer, but it’s too close for comfort in my eyes. I also believe it’s smart to always run extended wheel studs in conjunction with spacers.

Japanese Wheel Wednesday: Volk Racing ZE40

Volk Racing recently released the new ZE40. It’s a multi-spoke wheel with a mild concave. If has 3 available faces depending on size/bolt pattern. Face 1 and Face 2 look to have good caliper clearance even in the higher offsets.

It’s nice to see Volk Racing offering a standard bronze color on the new wheel. Take a look and tell us what you think. I’ve broken down some of the available sizes and included Brembo Clearance data. Check it out! Hint: they make an 18×12!!

Tim’s AutoX Monster. Yes it needs that wing, yes it will devour your soul.

Over the years Tim’s GC has changed, I’ve been wanting to do an article on his car for a few years. I’m finally getting the chance. Here is a little teaser of Tim’s car. And yes those are 315 Hoosiers.

This car is setup for AutoX running in Street Modified (aka. SM). SM is known for their big wheels, bigger tires and huge wings. Look out for Tim’s feature coming up and find him at National AutoX Events!

RPF1 Wheel Spacers In-Stock @ Penguin Garage

We hinted at this potentially happening a while back. Our close friends at Penguin Garage have started stocking the Clap Consulting spec Enkei RPF1 Spacers. These top of the line spacers are made by Motorsport-Tech.

RPF1Spacers2

The team at Motorsport-Tech has been making these spacers for many of our Consulting Clients. Since Motorsport-Tech is 100% custom made to order there can be a delay, Penguin Garage is removing that delay. Penguin Garage currently has 9 pairs unclaimed ready to ship.

The Clap Consulting spec Enkei RPF1 spacers are dual drilled 5mm spacers with a 56.1 hub bore and 73mm wheel bore. They are hub and wheel centric to the Subaru Impreza and the Enkei RPF1s.

These will work on any Subaru 5×100 or 5×114.3 looking to clear brembos with any of the flat/concave face RPF1s.
