AutoX: Moline, IL Great River Region SCCA 2014-7-6

Iowa is a great state, it has great landscapes, there are these things called seasons (which I completely forgot about), a HUGE amount of America’s food is grown/raised here in Iowa, and there’s AutoX. LOTS of AUTOX. Plus it’s pretty close to Nebraska, I hear there is a big AutoX held somewhere in the expanses of Nebraska. This week on Autoxing in Iowa my Co-Driver and I went east towards the great Mississippi River. The Great River Region does events at the iWireless Center in Moline, IL. I drove over to Brian’s house bright and early to pick him up and then we were off towards the ole’muddy Mississippi.

People like to make fun of smaller states in the Midwest, but they really are missing out on some amazing landscapes, and AutoXs.

AutoX: Oskaloosa, IA Iowa Region SCCA 2014-6-22

As many of you know, T3hClap.com has moved from the sunny beaches and tourist traps of Florida to the wonderful corn and soybeans of Iowa!!

Once we moved in and got situated. The first thing on the agenda was to find an AutoX, lucky for me we moved in to the intersection of three great SCCA autox regions. Iowa Region, Des Moines Valley Region and Great River Region. With the right planning it’s possible to do multiple events a month between each region (well, between March and Sept).

Oskaloosa hosted my first Iowa Autox. It is a small town that isn’t exactly easy to get to, when you take the long way. The AutoX is held at a small airports east of town. I plugged the airport into the Waze app and headed towards the event. As many iPhone users know, your phone will die and it’ll die when you’re 10 minutes from where you need to go in the middle of nowhere Iowa. Luckily, there was a Focus ST scooting a long that looked determined to go racing, so I followed him in the rest of the way. (Thanks Nate)

No Power != No Fun. Ivan’s Subaru BRZ is ready for anything

Everyone sits on the bench yelling back and forth about this, and that. Not enough power, needs AWD, shouldn’t have Prius tires, why does it need rear seats, needs a turbo, the arguments never seem to end. Yet, ultimately none of this bench racing matters, because guess what? The 86 twins are awesome. There was never a car produced that made everyone happy, not one. Except maybe the Dodge Omni GLH that thing was awesome. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, Ivan’s BRZ. Everyone who knows Ivan or has ever seen Ivan’s old STI knew the BRZ wasn’t going to stay stock for long. I’m pretty sure it was stock for all of 10 minutes.

Forged Performance’s 2015 STI sitting on 18×10 +40mm Volk Racing TE37SLs!!

The guys at Forged Performance don’t move slowly. You’ve probably seen pics flying around the web of their multiple track cars stomping around the track. If you haven’t get on google and start searching!! They’ve taken delivery of their new 2015 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and they aren’t slowing down. They had a gorgeous wheel and suspension setup on their old STI and have decided to swap it all over to their 2015 STI and see how it worked out. The good news, it works. The better news is they didn’t need to….

Brembo Clearance: Enkei RPF1 18×9.5 +38mm

We’re back again with more Brembo clearance info. The Enkei RPF1 is a popular wheel choice, it comes in many different sizes. Unfortunately many of the popular sizes don’t clear the STI Brembo calipers. We’ve already gone over what’s needed to clear the 17×9 +35mm, 17×9.5 +38mm, and 18×10 +38mm. Next on the list is the Enkei RPF1 18×9.5 +38mm. For the 18×9.5 +38mm Enkei RPF1 to clear the STI Brembos you’ll need an 8mm spacer. Luckily for the Subaru owners not running Brembos no spacers are required.
