Work Wheels Brembo Clearance Round 1: Emotion Series

Hey guys,Recently there has been a bit of a stir of what Work Emotions will and will not clear the Brembo brakes found standard on the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. As we all know the Brembos can be a bit challenging finding a wheel that fits without spacers or other modifications.

  1. hmmmm, what do you think drew ? Work Emotion CR Kai 18×9.5 +30 on an 08 STi, sounds doable ?? my 08 didn’t even arrive yet and im already thinking about mods lol

  2. I’m sure it’s doable, but the question is how much work.

    people are having better luck with higher offset 9.5″ wheels and the stock 245/40/18 tires.

    if you were doing coilovers and rolling of fenders the +30mm is indeed possible.

I looked up the specs on the KAIs and the newer XC8, I have an 07 and I would like to do the deep concave face which would have to be 18×9.5s in a 35 offset for the XCs and a 30 for KAIs, my questions are(and excuse my lack of knowledge), but is it possible to run this set up on an 07 with just camber plates and RCE yellows or do you have to go to coilovers… also have you seen deep concave face on either wheel as I am very curious to what it would look like… I am assuming its about the same in comparison as with the lower offset ADVAN RS GTR look and the higher offset version “flat” look. I am willing to do fender rolling also which I am sure its a must to even consider going to a 9.5 inch wheel on an 07.

  4. It is alot of work to get 9.5s to work with springs, especially ones as low as the RCE yellows.

    also, it really depends on what size tire you want to run, with those offsets it’d be alot of work to get a 9.5″ and any size tire to fit correctly (while still on springs).

  5. Work Emotion CR Kai 17×9 +44mm. Will these clear Brembos with a 10mm spacer up front? Anything bad about running spacers on a WRX?

  6. yes, they’ll clear with a 10mm spacer.

    there are negatives.

    It really pays to do it right the first time.

    Getting extended studs with a quality spacer pays off in the long run.

    you don’t need spacers to clear the rear brembos.

  7. I am planning on buying the 17×9 CR KAI’s.

    The offset I am looking at is the +38, but, eventhough it says here it will clear, I keep reading I’d need a 10mm spacer up front to clear the brembo’s.

    If that is the case, would it make sense to get a staggered setup with +28 up front and +38 in the rear? I guess rotating tires will be more of a hassle then.

    I have an 05 STi with RCE T2’s and -2.5 F and -1.5 R. Rideheight is 14″ F and 13.75″ R.

  8. Also, if the face of the 17×9 CR KAI’s is the same in every offset and both the +44 and +38 require a 10mm spacer, why would I want the +38 over the +44 ?

    Would the +38 be better for the backspacing/ Spring clearance?

  9. I don’t see the D9R listed, would you happen to know if that Work wheel in an 18×8.5 +47 would clear Brembos and fit a 2006 STi? Sorry if this is somewhere else already, I couldn’t find anything. Thanks!
